WebDashain festival (also known as Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra Dashami) is undoubtedly the largest and most spectacular Hindu religious celebration in Nepal. It is celebrated between October and November with utmost enthusiasm and zeal. WebDashain is a religious Hindu festival celebrated annually during the Hindu month of Kartik, between September and October in the Gregorian calendar. This year, it will begin on October 24. The festival is celebrated by Hindus in Nepal and some parts of India, and also in some parts of Bhutan and Myanmar.

WebDashain is the longest and the most important festival of Nepal. Generally Dashain falls in late September to mid-October, right after the end of the monsoon season. It is “a day of Victory over Demons”. The Newars celebrate the festival as Mohani. Tihar or Swanti and Chhath are another important festivals of Nepal. WebDapha music is classical Newar music that probably originated during late Lichhavi period and flourished in the Malla period. Basically, the songs of Dapha music are devotional songs based on classical ragas. Dapha music is played by bands known as Dapha Khalah that may be associated with traditional groups called Guthi.
